Getting the Most Out of the Gold Coast Theme Parks

99% of visitors to the Gold Coast end up in one of the fabulous theme parks. It’s probably one of the key reasons that the Gold Coast is in fact one of the top holiday destinations in Australia.

Are you like me and LOVE those Adrenalin rides? Perhaps you have kids and are looking for a place that you can keep them entertained? The Gold Coast Theme parks are definitely the right place to come.

To get the most out of the theme parks, you need to plan your trip. This article is here to help you do just that.

There are buses available that will take you to the parks so you don’t need to hire a car. Surfside Shuttle Buses offer the best service and they have brochures in most key places such as tourist offices, the airport and of course, on their buses.

1. Which Theme Park?

There are 4 main Theme parks and it depends what you are into as to which one you choose to go to.

The first is Sea World. Perfect for smaller children and anyone who likes Polar Bears, Whales and dolphins

Movie World. If you are into movies, film stunts and super heroes then this is the place. They also have some adrenalin rich rides here too.

DreamWorld. If you love the big thrill rides then this is the place for you.

Wet N Wild A classic water park with all the slides and flumes you can imagine.

Two more theme parks exist

White Water World. Relatively new to the Gold Coast. This is another water park designed to give Wet n Wild a run for its money.

Outback Spectacular. A show and Aussie Barbeque depicting life in the Outback. Only open in the evenings.

If you are an adult or have teenage children then I’d go for Dream World and White Water World.

Sea World, Movie World and Wet n Wild are better if your kids are a bit younger or you really are into your movies or marine life.

2. Getting The Right Ticket

There are two different owners of the parks so it’s best to pick between them to get the best value for money.

You can do Dreamworld and the White Water World together or

visit the other three together, Movie World, Sea World and Wet n Wild.

3. Decide How Many Days You Want To Spend At The Theme Parks

Work out how much time you want to spend at the park. Don’t be fooled. It’s hard to get round more than one park in a day. With the shows and queues, it’s too much of a rush trying to do two in one day. This is particularly true if you have kids who want to do different things.

With the exception of DreamWorld and White Water World, the parks are not close together. It’s therefore only feasible to do two parks in one day if you want to do these two parks. I wouldn’t necessarily advice it though. You will feel rushed. Instead, go for a two day pass. If you want to do the three parks, go for a 2 or better still, 3 day pass.

To book your tickets for the big 3 theme parks go to http://www.myfun.com.au. Once you’ve booked, the tickets are valid for up to one year. Go to www.dreamworld.com.au for the other two parks.

4. Spend less time queuing

Before you even leave for your trip, book your tickets on line It will save you lots of time as there is no queuing when you get to the park entrance. You can just use the e-ticket express gates.

If you think Dream World is the theme park for you, then take my advice and get get the following extra tickets which will give you more time to enjoy the park.

Early Entry. To get into the park an hour earlier than the crowds, you will need to pay an additional $10. They usually have at least 2 of the big rides available but sometimes they have all 5. Well worth it to avoid those queues. As you would expect, tickets are strictly limited so book ahead.

Q4U. For two adults this will cost you an additional $20 (family of 4 $30) and it’s probably the best money you’ll spend all day! It gives you a beeper, a bit like the ones you get in restaurants. Whilst you still have to wait for the ride as long as everyone else, you get to walk around the park rather than stand in line. The buzzer bleaps when you can get on the ride. There aren’t too many of these available so make sure you book ahead.

5. Don’t Miss The Theme Parks Main Attractions

Don’t run out of time. Plan your trip carefully by looking at the online Theme Park Maps. Work out which of the attractions you really want to do and find out the times of the shows. That way, you are less likely to run out of time. The website link at the bottom will tell you what each of the main attractions are.

6. Book Ahead For Some Interesting Extras

Some of the parks offer additional experiences that can make the difference between a good day and a really memorable one. Sea World has animal adventures that can be pre-booked. You can scuba dive with a shark or swim with a dolphin. You can also take surf lessons at White Water World.

7. Keep Costs Down By Taking Your Own Food

You can take a packed lunch to some of the theme parks to save a bit of cash. Dream World and White Water World won’t allow it though.

8. Store Your Belongings in a Central Location

Use the lockers to store your belongings but pick a good central location if you will need to keep going back and forth. Don’t just pick the first ones you see as these could end up being really inconvenient.

9. Take Lots Of Mobile Phones

If you plan to split up and meet back somewhere, take mobile phones – queueing for different rides will take different lengths of time leaving half the party frustratingly waiting at a meeting point.

10. Spend Time In The Gold Coast Exploring Its Other Charms

The theme parks are just one aspect of the Gold Coast. For a truly memorable holiday, make sure you incorporate some other attractions such as the Hinterland, known by the locals as the Green behind the Gold.

Who holds the Number 1 spot?

The following list consist of the most visited & viewed sites in the US. There are a few surprises here. This list according to Alexa who was not in the top ten, but made the top 100 nevertheless. I found this list quite interesting as there seems to be no end in sight for the complete overtaking of the internet that Google ‘The Giant’ seems to be doing. There isn’t much these days that Google is not part of in the search engine business. Having a huge hold on the search engine world and other parts of the internet business, Google is now moving in other directions.

It seems like so long ago when I first started using Google. Back then their stock was only a measly $48.00 a share. That stock has since split well over many times and has made quite a few people millionaires as well as Billionaires in the stock industry. My only regret? I did not buy more stocks when it was still affordable and on it’s way to what it is now. Yahoo, not be outdone though, is right in the heels of Google. Of course they had to do some restructuring a few years back, but that has seem to have worked in the best for them as they are not only back to profitability, but in the second place ranking as well. Lastly on the Top 3 sites it is facebook. Who would have thought it? But Facebook has completely passed Myspace. It seems to me that Myspace got a bit of more “tween” oriented in the past two years. Facebook is for the more intelligent, Less flashy type of crowd. Not to say Mypacer’s are dumb! I have a Myspace account as well as Faceboook. However, I’m Just stating the obvious here. No surprise here. Google has become as American as apple pie. But the pie has spread all over. There are not too many people who go online without using Google at least once a day.

2. Yahoo! —–*Personalized content and search options. Chat rooms, free e-mail, clubs, and pager

Yahoo has come a long way to manage it’s way to the 2nd top spot. Everyone at one time or another has had or still has a Yahoo email account. Just like just about everyone has said “do you Yahoo!” at one time or another.

Facebook crept up into our lives ever so slowly. Now it has become part of most of our daily rituals to sit there and type “what’s on your mind”

7 Smooth Landlord Moves to Slash Your Vacancies!

Yeah, well, tell me something else I don’t know!

Alright, everyone, call down… I WILL tell you some things that will take the stress out of you holding on to some vacant units and get you up and running as quickly as possible.

Aside from the obvious costs to the ghost town you call Apartment #4J (mortgage, insurance, taxes and all the utilities), there are other expenses you may not have thought about: vandalism, keeping that yard weed-free (aka landscaping) and freshening up your ghost town to make it look warm and inviting to your next prospect…

So, without further adieu…

Here are 7 things you can do to slash your vacancy rates:

Smooth Move 1: Review Your Neighborhood

Your neighborhood is different than every other neighborhood in the world. Why? If you can’t answer this question, it is the reason you have higher vacancy rates than most. What makes your neighborhood special? Does it have a farmer’s market you can walk to on Sundays? Are young families moving into the area (more so than in years past)? Even if you own a unit in a “not-so-good” area, find something positive to market to your clientele! “Discount food stores within walking distance!” Whatever it is, spin it! Make it work for you and your potential clients! And if you don’t know, you need to spend some time in that neighborhood and really think about what makes it unique.

Smooth Move 2: Visibility

How many times have you heard the term: location, location, location? Exactly. Countless times. Before you invest in a rental property expecting to sign a hot new lease agreement with someone, consider how much drive by traffic your building will receive. One of the properties I manage gets nothing but drive by traffic (which saves me money on advertising). If you are buying in a neighborhood known for it’s personality, make sure you invest in a property that is easily seen from the street.

Smooth Move 3: Whip that Baby Around Quick!

Be smart about your turn-overs and how to make them as efficient as possible. Make a simple list and contract your vendors to do their jobs as close together as possible. For example, when I am turning over an apartment, my list goes something like this: Maintenance “make-ready” for everything that has to be done during the week (removing wall plates, taking off fixtures, etc.), fresh paint (you obviously want to leave the floor cleaning/carpet installation AFTER the paint has been finished, new flooring/floor cleaning, blinds/window coverings, replacing fixtures, etc. and finally ending with janitorial cleaning.

If I am pressed I can do a complete make-over in 5-6 days. Why? Because I know the order and the vendors and can count on them… if one guy shows up a day late, you have to reschedule your entire week’s worth of vendors. Learn and write down a schedule that works for you and keep the vendors numbers and days they are arriving in plain view. Call to confirm them the day before. It’s your job to make sure they show up… what does it cost them to not get the dates mixed up? Exactly… nothing!

Having a quick turnover, puts money in your pocket…

Smooth Move 4: Know what to Charge for Rent!

If you are just guessing and don’t really know what comparable units in your ‘hood are going for, you will be the one at a loss. I do a simple “market survey”. Shop your own neighborhood to find 3-5 units that are comparable in size and the type of building. When they have vacancies, call the manager (keep their information because you will be calling every three months) and ASK what they are charging for their units. They don’t know who you are or what you’re doing… this information is invaluable in making sure you get that next lease agreement signed pronto!

Smooth Move 5: Market Your Vacancy Correctly!

Put yourself in the shoes of your potential tenants. Who are you reaching out to? If you own in an Hispanic neighborhood, consider running your ads in a Spanish newspaper. As a landlord, we use computers all the time, but a lot of people don’t… where is your clientele likely to see your ad? Outside Walmart? Near a Home Depot? What about posting inside the nearest coin laundry facility? Sometimes a perfectly placed flyer can swarm your place with computer illiterate potential tenants ready to sign your lease agreement.

Smooth Move 6: Consider an on-site property manager.

If you own multiple units all in the same neighborhood, you might want to consider hiring an on-site manager. Typically buildings with on site management have quicker turn-arounds and thus, fewer vacancies. And in most states, buildings with a certain number of units or more HAVE to hire on-site management… know the law in your state.

Bonus Smooth Move, let’s call it 6-a: If you hire someone to live in your building and run your properties, they are going to learn all of the smooth moves listed above and save you time in the long run. Do it! It’s a good move!

Smooth Move 7: Terms of the Rental Agreement

The longer the terms of the rental agreement (two years as opposed to one), the fewer the number of vacancies. So, who wants to sign a longer lease agreement? I will tell you who… people you dangle sweet tasty carrots in front of… why not offer a one year at a certain price and a two-year at a slightly lower price. In this world of commitment-phobes, you have to offer them something to get them to want to stay longer!

What if you give them a $50 per month discount if they choose a two year lease agreement? Or tell them, if they are willing to sign off on a two-year agreement, you will agree to keep the rent the same – “lock it now, fellas!”

The Danger of Free Radicals to Your Health

Free radicals are molecules with electrons that do not have a pair so they are looking for oxygen atoms to join with. There are oxygen atoms in the cell membranes that attract these free radicals. The said particles steal the oxygen atoms from our cells and this allows them to multiply and damages our cells causing them to mutate in some cases.

If such molecules are allowed to continue to attack our cells, the membranes can be damaged to the point that the cells are unable to work like they should. Powerful Backup Strategy – The Secret of Disk Imaging Uncovered

Disk Imaging – Smart Backup Secrets / Techniques

We all know there are many different backup solutions on the market, and the thing is, it’s up to you to find the best solution for your business / home setup.

I want to tell you about disk imaging, because I believe it’s one of the more powerful backup solutions, keep reading and I will explain why.

Lets start by examining some of the benefits:

  • Complete system restore is easy!
  • No need to re-install the operating system every again
  • Re-install your disk image onto another system (with similar hardware)
  • Recovery your entire system onto a new hard drive in minutes

Disk imaging is excellent in many ways.  I’m going to start by telling you how I do things, and why disk imaging is so great.

So you’re installing / re-installing Windows.  You install the operating system, XP / Vista, followed by installing all the drivers for the motherboard, sound, graphics card etc.  Then finally all the applications, eventually everything’s hunky dory.  This might take (on average) a day or so if you have a lot of applications and configurations to consider.

This is the time to take a disk image or snapshot.  Something like Acronis True Image is perfect.  The benefit being, if anything goes wrong with your system, and you can revert back to the crisp fresh install with everything setup perfectly.

I admit, I like to really push my system hard, which normally entails installing too many applications and making system changes too.  Hard to leave things alone sometimes, sure I’m not the only one!

Tinkering around, as many of us do, or installing potentially damaging software can lead to major system problems. Even for someone like myself, with many years of experience in IT (desktop and server side support) problems can still surface.  Especially with beloved Windows, and when they do, really you have two choices.

You can either spend hours trying to fix it, or, if the problem is serious enough, you can simply revert to the last disk image, which saves an enormous amount of time.

There are products on the market, Acronis True Image being one, that will create the disk image for you, and automatically keep the image up to date.  This coupled with access to your disk images before Windows loads, and all of a sudden you have yourself a very contingent setup.

Here are some scenarios where you would seriously benefit from such practice’s:

  • Your system is no longer bootable
  • Your system boots but you have OS level corruption’s which can’t be fixed (without hours of your time!)
  • Your system is infected with a virus or spyware, no matter what you do, nothing seems to remove it
  • You have a failed hard disk

Without disk imaging it’s all very time consuming!  If you are just using plain old backup software, incrementally backing up everyday, differentially backing up every week or such like, well that’s wonderful, but the restore process is going to take a long time, especially if you need to reinstall the OS (XP/Vista).

This is where disk imaging comes into its own.  Another thing to add, have you noticed how Windows just seems to get slower and slower as time goes on?  This is another good reason to be able to revert back to the original disk image you took in the beginning. A quick fix, saving a lot of time.

I have personally tried Acronis True Image, and their software enables you to keep the disk image up to date, access it before Windows loads, plus still do the standard incremental / differential backups, if you so desire. Solid contingency provided by disk imaging is definitely the way to go.

Sales Techniques – Do You Know Your Own Weaknesses?

The other day I had a sales training session with one of the new reps on our team. I always use these opportunities as a chance to review my own sales skills. I went over the basics – how our CRM works, how to manage leads and calls…etc. I was also taking sales calls while he sat with me so he could see how to input data and how to handle inbound calls in general.

One particular call came in that went perfectly. I overcame some difficult objections and closed the sale. After the call was done he said “I need to work on that.” I asked what he meant specifically and his reply impressed me. He told me that in his last job (where he was a top performer) they held very firm to strict pricing guidelines and it was basically a take it or leave it proposition for the customer. Obviously he sold the customer on the value of buying from his company, but his point of view was that he was defending the company pricing and position. He very quickly identified that we approach the customer as an advocate in the sales process and try to work with them on finding the right product and pricing.

His prior rigid sales approach was creating issues for him. He was not able to effectively present pricing and overcome objections. I was impressed that he was so easily able to identify the specific issue he was having in one sales training session. I have no doubt that he will quickly adjust and be very successful on our team.

Now, what about my own weaknesses? How can I work to identify and improve my sales skills and techniques? Too many sales people get depressed about their poor results; yet, they keep doing the same thing every month and wonder why they are failing. It would seem obvious that sales training is needed, but few are willing to actually face their own bad habits and weaknesses.

Take some time to analyze what you do and look for areas where you can make changes and improvements. Look at each step of the sales process from prospecting to post sales follow up. Get honest with yourself. Look at weaknesses as an “opportunity” to learn so you can overcome the challenges that are costing you money.
